K-spreaders are produced in versions from K40 with 2,5 m3 capacity up to K165 that holds 20 m3. The spreaders are always mounted with a 12-16 m lime kit, as an option it can also be mounted with a fertilizer kit for spreading 12-36m.  Equipped with the correct spreading kit, a Bredal spreader can spread various materials including :

SPREADING OF LIME

The heavy duty spread unit fitted to Bredal spreaders is for spreading lime up to 16m and some base fertilizers up to 24m. The high capacity spread box allows application rates up to 1600 kg/min. The “in-spinning” discs and vanes ensure a wider and more even spread of large quantities of material. The unit is mounted on 2 sliding arms, which simplifies the setting of the spread unit, when changing from one material to another.  The Bredal exclusive spread unit uses V-belts to transfer power from the tractor PTO to the spreading discs. This simple system offers many advantages including the absorption of shock loads which might otherwise damage gear transmissions. The SPC-1 spread unit uses a single V-belt, the SPC-2 unit uses two V-belts. To ensure the right tension of the V-belts, the spread unit is supplied with a spring tightened system.  For sand, compost or heavy wet materials when flow to the discs can be restricted, Bredal offers a reverse drive spread unit where the discs spin outwards from the centre, although this may reduce the overall spread width.

SPREADING OF FERTILIZER

For spreading fertilizer all Bredal spreaders can be quickly converted from lime spreading by simply changing the downchute and the two spreading discs. Bredal spreaders work according to the 4-double overlap principle, when each disc is spreading the double working width. This system gives a large overlap for both accuracy and less risk of error due to small changes in material or spreading conditions. Bredal spreading vanes are designed to accelerate fertilizer to a high speed, which combined with a low angle (7 °) of throw ensures minimum risk of sensitivity to wind in field conditions. Fertilizer is delivered to the centre of each disc, without touching the vanes, where it is then accelerated before entering the vanes.  The “soft feed” system, due to the presence of 6 vanes on each disc, minimizes the risk of fertilizer damage; the fertilizer is applied in a number of small amounts to “build up” the spread to a precise and accurate result in the field. The “soft feed” system allows the use of large 72cm diameter discs which combined with PTO speed of 1000 rpm gives high acceleration of the granules, which will reach up to 250km/h  as they leave the discs. The result is a very wide, flat spread to give a large overlap and to minimize the effect of wind, particularly at wider widths. For spreading products with more difficult spreading characteristics such as Granular Urea, Potash or Ammonium Sulphate, Bredal can supply a special kit of “H” concave discs for wider working widths.

HEADLAND SPREADING

The unique headland system on a Bredal spreader works by reducing the speed on one disc only, resulting in a level application rate and reduced spread distance towards the headland. The disc on the field side is not affected and retains the optimum spread towards the next tramline and ensures the full overlap. The reduction is made inside the V-belt transmission, so it is fully protected by a safety clutch. As the system is placed inside the spread box, it is well protected against accidental damage. If the spreader is TeeJet 500 computer or ISOBUS controlled, as an option the headland system can be controlled hydraulically directly from the tractor cab.
